Looking to add supercharger to my 2.4 Ecotec

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

Looking to add supercharger to my 2.4 Ecotec

Post by turbodon »

Im planning to put a supercharger on the buggy this summer.
It's a 2.4 LE5 Chevy Ecotec
Was planning to do the Eaton M62 Cobalt/LSJ charger and related parts.
Anyone on here mess with this combo before?

That would be a cool setup, like to see it for sure, along with some more of that Baja

Whats the compression ratio on the NA 2.4? (IIRC its around 11:1)

Could work with a bigger gas tank if you can reliably get E85...
Or if you can get lower compression 2..4L pistons..

Note the factory blower motors have forged cranks and HD rods, and lower compression likely forged pistons..
You have a cast crank and probably light weight powdered metal rods
(The PM rods are actually pretty good, but I bet the blower motors rods are beefier, they don't need forged rods until pushing >>450HP)

You should strongly consider scoring a complete blower motor out of a Cobalt and swap the whole thing in, including the ECU. Would be a lot less work, and its built to take it and then some.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

They are 10.4:1 Compression.
Early 06-07 variants have forged internals.
No need for E85 they handle boost just fine. Around 18psi on pump gas.
This isn't something I'm reinventing the wheel on, this is very commonly done in the street crowd, all the hardware literally bolts right on.
The stock 2.0 engine would be a big step backwards.
(They make 205hp) where my blown 2.4 should be in the neighborhood of 275-300hp depending on pulley size.
