STF GTG Eastern Utah Adventure 10-3-17 through 10-8-17

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

STF GTG Eastern Utah Adventure 10-3-17 through 10-8-17

Post by kyle_pc_75 »

I guess I never started an official thread about this year's trip. I volunteered to organize this one, and so I decided to take on an area that myself and a few others are familiar with, southeastern Utah. Since all the other trips had cool destinations, I wanted to do make sure we had the same, so my goal was to see as much ancient history as we could. Primarily, this means Anasazi Indian ruins, petroglyphs, pictographs, and dinosaur tracks, quarries, etc.

I have most of the destinations laid out as well as supply stops, gas stations, auto parts stores (we never need those!). Routes are about 60% there.
I had them all in Google Earth but then lost a portion of the paths when my laptop crashed. I still have them in my head and am starting to work on them now. The tentative plan is to start from the Price area and make a clockwise loop through Moab, Blanding, Bluff, and circle back through Hanksville. There will be a lot of sightseeing, so I'm trying to balance mileage with time for each day.

Most importantly, I have to finish the Bajamungus (and test beforehand) and this weekend is totally dedicated to that.

So, now it's time for roll call. I'm not sure who may be riding with who, but these are the rumors I've heard:

Bajamungus - Kyle
Green Bug - Tim
BAJA IT - Cameron
Toyota truck - Shortie
No1clyde - Elko Ed
560 - Richard
Little Jeep - Carl
Yellow Buggy - N8
Bubba?
Pack Mule - Ed Horton
Yellow Truck - Bo Brunyer
Red Superduperbeetle - Brandon
Sterling

So, that's where we are!

Oh, and we're looking for a starting point where we might be able to park some trailers for a few days. Price, Utah, would be nice, but we're open to options if anyone knows anyone in the area. Thanks!

I am looing forward to this trip :D My car passed it's first test in Jackpot so I am sure it will be there. I am keeping a seat open for Richard incase 560 is not ready but it looks like it should be. I also am starting to look at new tents as the cabin of canvas was under water in the flood , I will set it up and check it out good LOL.

Count me in. I already have the vacation request put in. I cannot guarantee that green bug will be drivable, but that will be my goal. It needs some love, but I should have time.

I'm glad you started a thread on this. A little foreplay makes the final experience better.

Let us know if you need help with routes and what not.

Are we still planning a 250 mile fuel range?

Sounds like it will be a good time. I can't throw my hat in (yet) as some things are up in the air between work and home. For sure will be following.

It would be good to have you there leather.

I still need to see if I can hone my knife on your posterior cervical spine area as your username suggests.

Im diligently working on 560 and it should be ready for the trip but just in case its not ed is holding me a seat for the time being. Sterling is planning on riding with me. If im not done i think he is planning to ride with carl again.
I havent seen the map of the trip but starting in price ut means we will be going across the san rafeal swell. Very cool area. Lots of old uranium mines. Very much looking forward to the trip.

So, Cam asked if we could move the trip to the following week. So that would mean October 5th - 10th. Weather should still be perfectly nice and not too cold, and it gives us all more time to prepare. I'm all for that! What's the concensus?

I almost froze to death the first night. I better pack thermals this time.

Is the 3rd through the 8th an option? I can commit to that now, but I will have to revisit my vacation request and let you know about the 5-10, but it will be a week and a half before i will know.

My chances of getting my car done are probably the lowest of the group, except for Herbie, so take that into account also.

Any of the dates listed is fine with me.
Tim, the green bug is a staple of the trip it has to be ready. Im pretty sure i'll be done. I could come up and help you if i'm done. I plan to be testing by early August or the knolls race at the absolute latest.

My anniversary is the 8th, so I would greatly prefer the original dates. I could likely make the later date work though.
