STF GTG Eastern Utah Adventure 10-3-17 through 10-8-17

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

Just an FYI. 99% of this trip is on BLM or State Trust Land. That means we can camp anywhere we want to. Still looking for the best spots, but that's comforting to know.

I will be taking care of the most important part of the trip this year and that's the stickers.

Thanks Ed! I'm currently compiling a beginning to end "Main Route" file that will give us mileage. From there we can pick and choose side routes and plan campsites. I plan to have the Lord Bajamungus "running" this weekend. That means rolling, accelerating, stopping. Woohoo!

Stickers are good! And running is good too! Sounds like we are all on track to have some rock-solid rides this year.

I even heard a rumor that Elko Ed is going to install seatbelts.

And 560 will have to have a grand unveiling on STF soon. It has gone through some minor changes.

300 miles to Monticello with no side trips. I have some work to do. :)

If you want to get off the main road some more and add a few miles, there is a nice trail west of Moss Back Butte, southwest of the "tables of the sun", and up towards Wingate mesa. That would break up some of the long transit section there. I will try to put it on Google Earth and update the kmz with that option.

Also, we could camp on Good Hope Bay maybe, near blue notch on route 206a. It would an out and back but a super cool wash and camp on the water of the timing works.

Lots of options. But not a lot of point to point roads in canyon country.

I'm almost ready. I bought a new ice chest for the baja today, now I just need to mount it.

I killed the hornets living in my Baja last night, with Shortie's help.

So I got some questions at the BOR meeting tonight on actual schedule. I was thinking we leave Price sometime on 10-3 or early on 10-4 and return on 10-8 early. That gives us 5 days of trip time plus a little squishy for travel. Still working on total mileage, so this may be flexible still. Thoughts?

Depends on how far to the first camp. I think we should leave no later than noon 10-3. If it's much later than that we may as well setup camp at the meeting spot. Is camping overnight on 10-2 an option somewhere close to hang out and gather the folks, or must we park unload and go?

What-ever works for me, but l feel we should set a definite time for engine start and rolling out. If we set a time it will involve less emotion if it comes time to make a decision to leave someone behind. An unfortunate thought but the group is getting large enough to consider the benefits of the group as well as the individual.

I don't think we can camp in Price, so we should head out as soon as possible. I agree on a noon departure at the latest.

I could use BOR as an excuse for a hotel room discount on 10-2 if need be.

So we are meeting on the morning of the 3rd (Tues) and ending on the 8th (Sun) for a 6 day, 5 night adventure?

I only ask because the last 2 have been 5 days and 4 nights.
