Alternator pulley ?

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

Alternator pulley ?

Post by mlrailguy »

Needing to upgrade my old pulley and wondering what others are using. My exhaust system is really close to mine and to change the belt I have to disassemble my header

Rough question, I think good upper pulleys have not been offered in decades.

I've recently given up on the brazilian bus version with the extra cooling fins, key ways were failing and generally falling apart. They were the last good OEM AFAIKT offered.

So far the least worst looking one is the all aluminum large square center requiring not stock shims and that lug nut looking bolt. Several vendors offer this, CB, RIP Bugpack, and the usual bottom feeders. Don't have as many miles on a couple so only time will tell.
Yeah some may call it overkill, but you can't have too much overkill.

I have to try something! Pulled my outer pulley off tonight and there is barely any tabs left for the outer half to hold onto. In fact the whole pulley just wobbles on the shaft, and I just put a new key in Saturday morning
