Uh oh. And you have no boost controller yet?

I don't have an electronic boost controller yet, I'm just using the basic wastegate and Spring at the moment.

You are probably maxing out the turbo....My RHB5 did the same thing once I got to 17 lbs boost.....it would peak at shift and then drop at max rpm.

But if you put the old spring back in that worked fine before, sounds like something else is going on.

Actually I think I'm to that point with the TD04L-13T when trying to hold 24 lbs. boost. It will peak at the shift in second and third at about 21.5-22.5 and then hit 24 once you load it in fourth.
Shifting to fourth gear is at 85 plus mph so it's very seldom I pull through the gears that long. Doing 100 plus mph to test the boost pressure is not going to be easy to explain to a pissed off officer......

Well fitted a new 14 psi wastegate spring today and now she is holding 13.8 psi boost constant from 3000rpm to 5500rpm plus that's from around 60moh all the way up to 100mph in fourth gear very happy

Also decided to tidy up the wiring in the front of the bug today. I found red wires with where earths, brown wires witch where lives, found permanent live and ignition live wires going to nothing all fitted firm previous owners.

And this is the end result. I've still got to tidy up around the relays and fuse block but it's looking a lot better now

Wow! Nice job on the wiring! That turned out nice! Good job fixing the wastegate. I was worried for you because I've heard see real times about electronic boost controllers not holding boost like you described. Now if you have trouble you know your hardware is good to go!

Clone, I’m toying with the idea of switching my td04-13t to a td05.Clonebug wrote: ↑Sat Oct 20, 2018 6:18 am Actually I think I'm to that point with the TD04L-13T when trying to hold 24 lbs. boost. I’ll lose some bottom end spool but with the larger cfm from the compressor and the larger turbine housing, it should give more of a kick in the back when it boosts and be less likely to run out of puff at higher rpm like the td04.
Just trying to decide whether I want to sacrifice the quick spool. My car is a street car after all and quick spool is handy at the traffic light Grand Prix!
