Re: New prototype Porsche cooling shroud on 2276cc turbo EFI
Thanks guys!
To be honest I would eat my left shoe out of frustration if it wouldn't work at all, as I have way too many hours involved in it .
Can't believe it is over 4 years ago when I made the first mockup of the system:

I've just bought an Omega 8 channel temperature datalogger, so I can log the temperatures of the cylinders and heads when I get the car finished. I'm still a bit concerned about the distribution of air between the heads and the cylinders, as the current tin design is biased to the heads. I'm not sure the channel to the alu-nikasil cylinders is wide enough, but only time will tell. Main focus now is fabricating the front mount of the gearbox, so I can finish the exhaust, gearshifter and coilover-mods at the rear.

I really want to get this thing on the road, but somehow these kind of projects take forever to finish....
Cheers,
Robin

Thanks for the carporn!
What kind of transmission is that?
What kind of transmission is that?
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Re: New prototype Porsche cooling shroud on 2276cc turbo EFI
Hi Pile,
It's an Elite TXL250-6s with extended gears (22mm wide), which is a fully sequential 6 speed gearbox. It should be able to handle at least 610 Nm (or 450 lbft for the metrically challenged) of torque. The initial bellhousing they made didn't fit, so I designed one together with a friend of mine and had it machined from billet. Just hope it lives up to it's promise and stays in one piece.....
Cheers,
Robin

This will be IRS set up? Nice work on that billet housing!!

Hi Shag,
Yes, it is a IRS setup (but with coilovers instead of the torsion bars). Finally received my thermocouple datalogger today, so I can start wiring the engine.....

@sweetlokin66: Yeah, I saw the moulds you've made for your horizontal cooling: nice work!
@Ghia Nut: me too!
Unfortunately the front gearbox mount is going to take a bit more time (everybody at the laser cutting company are on holiday ) so I decided to do some welding on the drysump tank:
http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fotos/127015.jpg
I still need to fabricate some parts for it before I can finish it.
Cheers,
Robin

Re: New prototype Porsche cooling shroud on 2276cc turbo EFI
Finally got to do some work on the car again, and now have the front gearbox mount finished. This meant I could put the engine in the car and see if everything would fit. Due to a change in plans with the inlet manifolds (chose for CNC machined better flowing straight manifolds instead of the offset manifolds), the plenums didn't fit anymore (touched the engine lid brackets) so I had to shorten them and find a way to correct the offset position. Finding a solution was not easy, as the engine bay is quite cramped already, but I finally found a solution which did fit and kept the length and volume of the plenums fairly equal:

It finally fits! And I found a solution for the cam sensor too (grey wire)

Hope this is enough clearance.....

Did some welding on the header too, and it is starting to take shape....
Sorry for just the links, but apparently the pictures are too wide, so I cannot upload them

You do nice work! Are you planning to run more than 1 turbo? It appears in the one picture (129338.jpg) as though you have 1 turbo running on 2 cylinders?

Re: New prototype Porsche cooling shroud on 2276cc turbo EFI
Thanks Steve!
@dcstinger: Thanks! No, it is a 4 in 1 collector and a single turbo. Two identical smaller turbo's on a 4 cilinder engine are less efficient than a single (researched by Porsche once). I'll try to find a better photo of the collector....
