are you using two turbos...? or the over the trans header? looks like it'll make life a lot easier!

Is the box removable? Sure would be nice to have that area easily accessible.

No, it will be a single turbo and the header (and for how I want it to run) I'll have to make myself more then likelyandy198712 wrote:are you using two turbos...? or the over the trans header? looks like it'll make life a lot easier!
The area seems accessable well enough for what I wanted to do there and all is welded in for simplicity, rigidity, low weigth and being sealed up better that way.Chip Birks wrote:Is the box removable? Sure would be nice to have that area easily accessible.

Just found a very neat trigger system from VWSpeedshop last week, which would suit my pupose perfectly. Its 24-1 teeth set-up.

Re: 2,23 ltr type 4 turbo build-up
Just a question, why the T1 port arrangement instead of the T4?

Re: 2,23 ltr type 4 turbo build-up
Its more or less the only port arrangement available when you want to use a custom type 4 headCobraJet wrote:Just a question, why the T1 port arrangement instead of the T4?
I'am not a particular fan of the T1 port either as you may know, but it'll do.

Much better selection of reasonably priced exhausts is a win, it partially offsets the cost of the heads...
If you avoid buying a Tangerine header its about 50%.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

That REALLY is a BIG plus, didn't think about it that way!Piledriver wrote:Much better selection of reasonably priced exhausts is a win, it partially offsets the cost of the heads...

I just feel funny seeing it that way being it's a T4.
Is there any way to get a good exhaust with heater boxes?

On a big, highly tuned motor with $4K heads and a big turbo?... stock HX would be like permanently stuffing a potato in the tailpipe.CobraJet wrote: Is there any way to get a good exhaust with heater boxes?
On a mild engine, go for it, adapt a 914 Bursch exhaust or Sebring exhaust, works fine, bolts on the (1.7/1.8L) HX, has stock heat or better, as full length T4 Bus HX can be used in most cases. (the 914 exhausts tuck forward in the middle)
Might even work for a mild performance motor, but the HX become progressively more restrictive as power goes up.
I dodged the "heat or proper exhaust" choice with a BN4 in the frunk. Works great, close to zero warm up time.

I have always wanted to do gas heat in mine. But never knew how well it would work switching from e85 to gas and back again.

Re: 2,23 ltr type 4 turbo build-up
It doesn't really care AFAICT, ethanol blends seem more forgiving on AFR...
...but I usually run straight ~E5 gas in the winter or i can't get the heads/oil to temp.
Most later style metering pumps have an easily adjusted stroke, although my new one is non adjustable Webasto unit for the Airtop 4000... It still doesn't seem to care, but I have a hard time getting over E70 around here.
If you have one of the earlier units with the adjustable regulator its easy to tweak up/down, but the metering setup is far more consistent.
I have considered building a simple PIC based "EFI" system for it, mostly useful for converting early units to metering pump style fuel feed, using an optical sensor and a bit of retroflective tape on a fan blade for the RPM input.
I almost used a spare MS2 but that seemed way too overkill even for me.

Re: 2,23 ltr type 4 turbo build-up
Just found and received some fitting (and for me the correct) 10mm and 12mm spark plugs for the heads:
The iridium one is a try-out for me though. They seem to get very good reviews, so I'd thought to try it out.

Had the pistons notched:
and measured and adjusted the cam timing:
Pushrods are machined to length also (machinist sweared because of the dual taper ), so making progress at last!

When are you machining the case for a Porsche fan ?
