No idea what the brand is, custom built Shag unit. He says he uses parts from Comp, Garrett, etc. T3/to4e, I run a 5/8" line from turbo to sump. Cheap steel 90°s at both ends.

I'm running a IHI RHF4 VF13.

In other news. Have to love a good friend with CAD and CNC.

Need mount tabs for the digital dashboard... :twisted:
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Just came home a day early from holidays with half the family down with colds and other disgusting ailments. Me, I've got a voice like Batman and I'm off my food, but I managed to climb under the car and pull the turbo drain off tonight. Seems like making a new one is not going to be quite as hard as I expected. The other good news is, the turbo drain is point pretty near to straight down. Not exactly, but hopefully the new drain pipe will be the silver bullet... or should I say, the silver bullet that actually works. Coz if it doesn't, I better buy a 6 shooter. :lol: :roll:

Still talking like Batman after a night out at karaoke. But it's a public holiday here and I am getting board of watching youtube (and our download is gone). So I went out to the shed and started hatching plans. It's taken 2 separate goes at a better drain pipe. Stupid pinholes, I wish I had my TIG going but I can't justify the gas. So I ended up with this...

This pipe allows a verticle drop of a few inches to the elbow I had...

And if you're thinking the tank looks familiar. Werl, you'd be right. It's actually the first one I made. The second one is next to useless now. Wish I'd waited til I made the drainage pipe before I got all weldery on it. Oh well. Let's call it welding practice. The fittings will be used on other things anyway.

So everything got a fresh coat of zinc paint (the only silver I had) and was ready for installation.

Having got it on the car I realized it sticks out like the proverbial. Hmm. Years ago I would have been stressed off my dial about this sort of installation. Now I think it's normal and acceptable. Is that desperation or pragamatism?

Having said all that, it's pretty much the best drainage the car has had so far with respect to oil drainage.

I'm not entirely sure what to do with the breather. The fitting is pointing into the wheel arch and there's no easy way to reroute it at the moment. For now, until I can be entirely sure the oil issue is fixed, I'll tuck it up behind the oil filter I reckon.

That 90 brass fitting going into the tank from the drain still looks restrictive, you may still have a bottle-neck in the system! Maybe try to find an oil-rated rubber elbow sized to the turbo drain/tank inlet tube and get rid of that brass 90 deg. fitting? Trying to drain the foamy oil coming out of the turbo needs Maxing out on the hose sizes - generally 1/2"ID minimum on all fittings/hoses/connections - or as close as you can get to it. Same with exit fitting - needs to be 1/2" NPT with 1/2" ID hose to the pump.

The brass elbow is enormous inside and out. Not worried about that at all. The turbo is ball bearing too, so that's not even that much oil going into it.

Just a thought Pete - that elbow seems to be the common denominator in all the drain systems you've assembled. Fitting a copper plumbing elbow might be an option if you find you need a bit more "flow".

Is it camera trickery, or is your turbo drainage port not pointing straight to the ground? I'm not talking about the tubing you made, but the actual port itself. From the looks of the pic, it looks like your turbo drain port is about 25° off from vertical, and then the bend in the tubing makes it go down. Kind of a weird angle so I may be looking at it wrong.

No, it's not camera trickery. Unfortunately, that's as close to vertical as I can get the port due to issues with the wastegate. I've reclocked it as far as possible and that's what I have to work with. The turbo specialist I spoke didn't seem to see that as being the main issue though.

Yeah, I can see what you're saying. The other common denominator until this point has been the factory drain pipe, which had the oil drain running near horizontal instead of near vertical.

Having said that, if none of this works, the whole system will get a major rework and a different turbo.
