Well I've crying myself to sleep every night missing you all with the upgrade taking longer than we all thought...
...but I haven't been sitting on my backside.
The new oil can is in the car and it's all running.

The first thing I adjusted in the tune was the idle. Autotune had pushed it up nearer 14.7AFR and that's not happy.
I've not given the car a hiding just yet as I needed to get my son to and from basketball on the weekend. Sadly that's the end of basketball. He's totally over it and is dropping out of the team. He won't even do the last game of the season on this weekend. No one passes and then the team tanks in the last few minutes as the heros are out of steam. Basically the coach(es) have failed to stopped severe ball hogging and he's barely touched the ball all season. The only ball he got from a team-mate on saturday was an accidental ricochet that hit him in the head. Beyond that, the "good" players never pass to him. Sure, he's not great, but he was trying.
Anyhow, rant over. Back to the car. On saturday I gave it a wash...

Ok, so maybe I left it in the rain and just wiped it down. That's the wash for the year. The paint falls off it anytime I try to do anything more. I waxed it on sunday and found more PO (previous owner) problems. There's bondo in both doors. Hmm, will have to sort that out some time. Grrr...
I also found the PO had done this to fix the seat. Honestly, what's wrong with the guy? When I bought the car it had no seat belts. In an accident, he would have gone through the windscreen WITH the seat. He owns a welder (I know coz he does birdpoop welding), why didn't he just weld it on properly?

Anyway, back to my hackery. I pulled the seat, coz I spent most of Satuday working on the mounts for this...

So I got the back adjustment rod out and made up a bracket to hook onto that. Then there are 2 pieces of angle welded onto the sides of the old seatbase. The seat bolts up in 6 places. I got it in the car and it fits well...

...well sort of. I took it round the block and noticed a few things. "Seat of the pants" came with a whole new meaning, LOL. Secondly, this is not a "drive 1000 miles seat" without padding. Thirdly, the steering wheel and the side of the seat are just a little too close for comfort.

That's ok, because my machinist friend is starting on my steering wheel blank in a couple weeks. I've got some ideas for padding too. I just need to make the seat a little less obvious. In the meantime, the seat is back out of the car while I paint the base the right colour. Got a spray pack from my local auto shop to do that. Just waiting for the humidity to drop a little around here. Feels like south east Asia. 25degC and 100% humidity.
What have the rest of you been up to?
