I have a draw through 1914cc with a Holset hx30 turbo and it pulled oil into compressor side on first attempt. Now oil line has .078" restrictor and big 3/4" ID oil drain and I used new oil seals, o-ring and compressor seal collar from rebuild kit, no smoke whatsoever now. You must have a good size, non restricted oil drain.

Took out .078" oil restrictor and put in .062" again. Wanted to see how far I could go and .078" was the limit, still no smoke. 26mm oil pump, Rotella 5-40 full synthetic oil.. Still running 40 dcoe and best change was 200 air, 165 gas, f11 et, .65 pump jets 60/65 idles with 30 venturis.

Just reading through this thread. Restrictors in the supply line are really important on aircooled VWs. We run a lot of pressure, especially in the gallery where the sensor is. Half of my issues with oil leaking past the seals were cured with restrictors.

In was reading somewhere that some guys actually use Holley carb jets to restrict flow. I guess so they have a size to off of. I'm not real sure where they put them though.

Lot of blow through water pumper engines using turbo oil restrictors because of too much oil volume at turbo center cartridge causing oil past seals. Some of those engines are revved past redline with high boost and have kept the turbo oil volume managed with an oil restrictor and good turbo oil drainage.

Trial and error here. Tried -3an oil line to Holset hx30.... smoke off boost.... Ran .062" oil restrictor .. no smoke, ran great. Tried .078" oil restrictor and started getting small film of oil past seal evident on spark plugs. Back to .062" restrictor..... I've noticed most restrictors in .035", .040" for ball bearing turbos and .060", .065", .075" available for journal bearing turbos.

And does every turbo has a restrictor on from stock or do you have to fit one your own?

The OE factory feedline might. Nobody uses that most likely.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

The barrel bolt oil for the oil feed on my turbo has a 1.5mm restrictor hole from the factory. I added another 1mm restrictor where the T-piece comes off the block. That is using a ball bearing turbo though.
