under deck lid turbo header

Post by seabeebuggy »

I have been gone for a long time . I have pulled my bug out of storage. I last drove it in 1989. the engine has sat all that time and Im not going to bother with it. I have my 2006 turbo engine in my buggy and will pull it out or do a subi swap? either way I want power. Back to my original question is there a factory made header for under deck lid use besides the hideaway?

Kawell used to make a "street" under the lid draw-through exhaust. Not sure if they're still active in the VW world?

You mean besides the CB Hideaway? http://www.cbperformance.com/product-p/7301t.htm

I see lots of guys just use a regular header and then make an up pipe. Myself included have done this. Is it for FI or draw through ?

The DRD is an A1 header btw. I got mine directly from them. Very nice product.

Maybe i just need to drop in a 2332 with high compression. That should make the bug move.

It works great for blow through. Positions the turbo in pretty much the same spot as CBs hideaway does. All of the pipework goes to the front of the car though. The turbo looks like its just hanging onto nothing.

Yep, almost as good as a pump gas low boost turbo'd 1915 would

Well I am going to be pulling the buggy engine out for the first time in 10 years. I need to send the trans out for new gearing. I'm still on the fence on what to do with the engine. I have 2 cars and 1 engine.

I've got the CB hideaway. It get's the job done, but it's probably too big for my car. If you are 1915 or bigger, it's spot on. I will say though, I've had issues routing oil lines and the like. If the DRD takes the pipes forward, that will give you a LOT more room for things at the back as well as more ground clearance. That's one place where the hideaway really sucks.

I remember my CB hideaway header it was big, boost was slower with it. I have a 2006cc. When I went to a smaller header it was so much better. I'm still on the side of a big non turbo for my next build. Boost is so fun though.
