1 3/8" collector

Post by buguy »

I think I'm going to make a new header from a box of bends but I can't seem to find a 1 3/8 collector anywhere. Anyone seen one around?

Thanks but yikes! Is there a steel version somewhere? That's more than I have in my whole engine/turbo set up! Also I think I could buy a header built for just a bit more than that.

That's more like it!! I have my tranny mounts on the way along with some new rubber hoses for the brakes and fuel hose. I ordered j-tubes too but now I'm thinking I might just make some when I make the header.

So I was eyeballing my car today and I noticed my up pipe from the header looks to be 1 1/2". Do you suppose that's too small? I have a 1 3/8" primary tubes.

Oh boy. I measured that up pipe today an the OD was only 1.49xx, so I don't know for sure what that makes the ID but it must be around 1 3/8".

Also is anyone else's turbo like this? I have trouble getting it to seal because of the beveled edge on the outlet (as you can see by the sealer on it) and I wonder how others have overcome this. I don't want to have to do away with the internal gate just yet.

I have no idea other than it looks to be a domestic ball flange type seal. What was that off of?
Yeah some may call it overkill, but you can't have too much overkill.

I took everything off today. That up pipe is indeed 1 3/8". That can't be good. 4 exhaust tubes that are 1 3/8" feeding into one up pipe that is also 1 3/8". I'm going to weld in a 2" up pipe. My collector is only 2" so I don't think going any bigger would do any good.
I also blasted and welded a few pin holes I had in the old header. This, along with the j-tubes I have coming, should get me by until I have a chance to build a whole new header.

Edit: :I was just thinking.... Maybe that small up pipe isn't hurting me as much as I thought. I guess all cylinders aren't firing at once so maybe it doesn't need to be any/much bigger.
