Sounds fun. I live right off of Route 66, west of St. Louis, Missouri. This stretch of 66 is now called highway 44, and there is actually a Route 66 museum right around the corner. Give a shout when you get in town and Id be glad to show you my VW stable and any local attractions you would like the enjoy.

Buguy, I love that idea, but my wife is really not a 'drive a ratrod across the US' kinda girl. She likes AC and comfort. :roll: I'd be happy to do it in a pickup though. In fact, I like the idea of buying something, driving it for 5 weeks and then selling it off (or taking it home though that's probably not practical).

I feel ya. My girl would never do it either. Might be a pain dealing with trying to sell a car on your vacation though.
