Tonneau cover-type thing?

VW's aircooled mini SUV. Great for riding in the country, or cruising the beach.

I discussed this with Larry Dustman last year. At the time, he seemed to be interested, but the project was never finished.
I had a plan for a cover to be used only when the car was stationary; to avoid putting the top up to park outside overnight,
The cover had a sewn in pocket for the (folded) windshield and velcro straps for the door handles.
P-mail, and I'll send you a couple of PDF's to illustrate.

FWIW, I never got a reply back from the The Thing Shop when I inquired about this.

I got the PDF from Gary that he sent Larry. And his idea is very cool. I would like to be able to keep my top down but have no indoor vehicle storage.

Look at this:

I wouldn't want to use the exact same method on a Thing because it would stress the windshield, but this is a nice example of what we are talking about.

That looks good for parking and storage and whatnot.
I'm still interested in something one could drive with, similar to the Type 3 roadster deal.

When I get my top fixed, I'm going to see if the shop can make one.
I'll keep everyone informed of any progress.

Another example:

from this ebay ad:

As I think about it, I think the ideal for me would be a tonneau cover on the rear with a small convertible top for the front seats that could be quickly raised and lowered and would integrate with the front side curtains.

I have absolutely no idea how this could work, however.
