This is our place to show our things. Please no pun intended. This is an automotive oriented site.
Recent changes at the samba have deleted files we were once linked to. This is a link to our own STF gallery. http://www.shoptalkforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=54482

Recent additions not shown in photo would include headlight protective cross wires, two sets of lights on front bumper, alunimum diamondplate runningboards ect.
Whos next? Bob Ingman

And now for something entirely different. I sent him a note about his thoughts of it being from 1962. www.geocities.com/metaltabz/181.html

This is an older photo of my Thing. It was taken around '85. It became my first car when I was 16. It has really been a great vehicle. It was used for everything from camping trips, hunting trips, ski trips, and daily transportation. It never failed to surprise people with its offroad abilities, it was a fun, dependable work horse. I've had it in storage since '93 and hope to get it back on the road soon.

Here is my 73 which has a growing identity crisis. A previous owner put the 74 pods on and a lot of good honest resto and improvisation time - this was originally orange, but you have to dig really deep to find a trace. I'm going with the slightly custom bolt-on stuff, especially to replace the expensive stock 181 P/Ns when they die. The local kids call it Shrek - so do the guys at work .... actually the first statement does it all.

Eventually she will be Miss beautiful......In september, she gets the body removed, and sandblasted then primered......and by the end of Sept...new floorpans. That is half the battle with this one!

Just finished putting 7.5"x17" wheels with 235/45 tires on the Thing and made a radio panel and glove box door. Image Image

The latch is VW beetle 68 and newer. I used a washer painted black on the outside as a buffer. Flat metal for the door with some bends in the hinges to get it to lay out and have minimal gap around the edges. The radio plate is a Thing emergency flasher panel. Here is one picture and a couple links to more. Image
