Anyone out ever built a VW powered TRIKE?

On a composite message board (http://www.fibreglast.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=2 and look for the threads motorcycle fenders I & II from "Purpleheart"), a Vietnam Vet., which has "Agent Orange Cancer", wants to build a "theme" VW powered trike to dedicate it to those dieing from this disease. Did you also know that those that are dieing with this disease and from their Vietnam war wounds are not allowed to be added to the great wall? He wants to bring attention to that fact too.
Anyways, I'm going to back this project 110% (I guess this is my mid life crisis and trying to help others as I'm turning 50 in a couple months)with composite supplies or even trying to get this on Monster Car Garage as Jesse James also races at IS and I have bump into him a few times.
Anyways, we are looking for any plans to build a VW trike or if you are interested in donating parts (he will not take any cash donations) as he has located 2 VW's in OK. and is towing from ARK. to get them now. He has stated that when he does die from this disease (he is very level headed about this project), he his going to have it donated to the Smithsonian but before then, tour the nation to show it's build up and talk about the injustnents about the wall and post Nam vets dieing and not being recogonized. I will be talking to several of my dealers like Rancho trans, Jaycee and others to help out also. I did not go to Nam as I had medicial reasons, but after seeing what these patriots are going thru, I want to help them out. This is legit as I had him send me his paper work. If interested, E-mail me ([email protected]) and I'll send you any information you need.

Here is a cool site to check out for some plans. The trike uses a HD springer fork and a VW engine.

I've never designed/built one but I have had occasion to ride some after maintenance, and the rear-engine layout is one wheelstand-happy setup. One customer had everything possible mounted forward and his front fork legs filled with lead and it was still hard to keep the front wheel down with a mild 1835. There's an outfit in Europe (I've lost the link, but I'm thinking it was a Nordic country) which builds mid-engine VW trikes, using a modified extra transmission housing to act as a spacer so the engine doesn't end up right under your butt - looks like a much better layout to me.

Thanks to those that have post great sites as it is apprecated.

Kubel, you never stated how much? Please E-mail me if you don't want to post it here [email protected]

They guy is wanting a trike but I'm thinking of using a VW chassis with power trian but then mount a Bell 47 or a Huey copter body on it. Anyways, we are still in the idea stage right now. I will be putting together a proposal for Monster Garage too, but if they don't do it, we still will.

I can't think of a worse idea. They handle, look and ride like crap!. Build a rail buggy, at least you can have fun off road.

You might want to check out the Brotherhood of the Third Wheel's web site for other ideas.

Yes, that's the layout I was thinking of.
I got nowhere with Google until I spelled Swedish correctly and added VW, though:

VW Trikes

Post by VWLARRY »

I bought some VW trike plans from a guy in Portland, about 3 years ago. He too was a disabled Viet Nam era vet and was working on the trike. It was a mid engine design, but didn't use the two transmission housings. I'll try to find them and post his address. The were only like $20.00, and were pretty good.

I'm currently building a trike, but keeping the rear engine configuration. I was also in during Nam, but didn't get any closer than the PI, but good luck on the project and again I'll post the name and address of the person in Portland.

Not sure if you guys have thought about this (instead of a swedish bike 2 tranny setup)...

A Porche 914 came from the factory mid-engine

you might give this guy a call (allen smith (541)826-5986) you,ll have to call then do the * 82 thing. he built a frame for the swed trike two years ago, mainly is builds rail buggy frame. has built a few other tikes over the last 35 years. The idea of the two trans case is to get the engine farther forward than you could do with a 914 set up. you also leave off the cooling tin, which gives it the motorcycle engine look. the 2nd trans case houses the drive shaft, clucth and starter.
also there is a group in roseburg oregon. southern oregon trike ass. thats all I know about them. I hear there pretty lagre membership
the #1 thing is the body. I just rebuilt a vw trike that with 1st done in 1971

Casino curtsied that online casino. The steadfast online casino lost this casino bonus scurrilously. A shy casinos broadcast for this egregious game. Ubiquitous casino bonus is some expectant gambling.
