MAXI TAXI
Maxi Taxi hardware
Bubba, what kind and where did your door hinges come from? I have found that the originals on mine are marine grade made by PERCO, but I like the way yours look.

new maxi taxi owner
My wife and I recently purchased a 1970 Maxi Taxi. I don't know too much about them...just that they are a pretty cool ride! I didn't even know what it was really when I bought it...just thought it looked cool! Now that we have it, we are more interested in the background of them...i.e. how and where they were made, what they originally looked like, etc. The guy I bought it off said they were made in Bremen, IN. We live in Mishawaka (not too far from Bremen). This one that we bought is in desperate need of some TLC. My wife and I have been slowly working on cleaning it up, but I will take any advice I can get at this point. Any Maxi Taxiers out there that have advice for me?

Hey Trigger, I have had one for about 4 months now. Learn as much as you can about working with fiberglass. I f your doors are in need of repair you will need this so that you can cut the door apart and then put it back together again. I have fixed both of mine and learned the hard way. The second door went real well.
Yes they were made in Bremen Indiana. They are no longer made and contrary to popular belief, Berrien Buggies does not have the mold for it.
Good lick. Maybe we will see you at a show sometime. Mine is blue now but will be green when completed next year.

Re: new maxi taxi owner
I'm just outside of Joliet, Illinois and I have been tinkering with a Maxi Taxi for a couple years now. I think the the best advice I can give you is, sell me your doors I am in need of a set of doors for mine. If anyone comes across a set, let me know.trigger05 wrote:My wife and I recently purchased a 1970 Maxi Taxi. I don't know too much about them...just that they are a pretty cool ride! Taxi doors
Jerry, I just ran into a guy at the Good guys cruise here in Ohio who is the owner of Exotic Paints by Darrin, Darrin. He was telling me that there is a Taxi in Ashland Ky. near him for sale cheap. As for your doors, if it is the mechanics, you could do as I did and cut them open and make some modifications to the cam assly. and then with some glasss bracing, secure the panel back with some stainless screws. I could send you some pics of what I did if you would like.
Taxi doors
No I did not. It was not something I thought of at the time, but you should be able to look up Exotic Paints by Darrin. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I do not get on the web very often other than for work.
just bought a taxi
I just purchased a maxi-taxi and am waiting for the title. I was just wondering what one of these things are worth. I got mine cheap but had to rebuild the carb. install new breaks and wheel cylinders and do alittle wiring work before it was road ready. The doors and body appear to be in very good condition. Any ideas what this car could fetch on ebay.

Re: MAXI TAXI
HEY THERE, I just got a maxi taxi, I live in hernando florida, I was told this one is the "DELUXE" model. It has the 4 bucket seats center console with the built in heater, I just built a 1835 motor, all chromed out, with headers, and a progressive weber carb. I don't know that much about the taxi's, yet I've been building VW based cars for quite some time now. Is it true that they only built 50 of these? my factory vin # is MVIN234127IND, and built on a 65 VW chassis. hope to have some pics for you soon, In case you are interested. I do need the side curtains like the ones you have, I made my own for now.BUBBA2041 wrote:DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE ONE OF THESE?:

The picture of the brown Maxi Taxi looks exactly like the one we built. Who did you purchase it from?

Re:
Your car is NOT a Maxi Taxi. All Maxi Taxi's came with doors and identical hood fronts. They were built in Breeman, Indiana. The same company also built Mini Marx which was only a two seater. The Maxi Taxi's had four seats and flat chrome bumpers.Kelroy wrote:No but I have one of these in Southern Indiana
Do you know anything about your bumpers. I am in need of some of these

Re: MAXI TAXI
There are several manufactures of the blue one. it is either a Berry Mini T4, a splash off it, or something modified from either one. I have a Redhead Roadsters version of it and it has some of the same body flaws as one of the guys I talk to in the mid-west who's is a different make/manufacturer.
Fun buggys buy not a Maxi Taxi. I did run into something similar to a Maxi Taxi many years ago. The price was right but I didn't buy it as it had a broken front fender and the pieces were missing. I had an emlem on the grill that said "Sand Taxi".
