[8 dowel crank] which dowel pin remover?

Post by Ark1 »

He guys, I need to remove the dowels from my 8 dowel (spg) crank. Does anyone know specifically of a puller that will work? Tried all the stuff that's work'd for me in the past with noavail.

If you have access to a TIG welder, you could weld a nut to the pin and hope it holds while you pry. There is another possibility - dowel pins over a certain size are only case hard. Grind the end of the pin to get through the case and then drill and tap it. You will know right away if it is too hard to tap when your drill won't get in there. Once you have this tapped hole, you can use a slide hammer.
