I have a stock 1600 cc engine on my dune buggy, however when I pulled the heads after about 40 hrs of work to replace a damaged pushrod guide tube found that 4 pushrods were bent about 4 to 5 mm in the center in an arch form. I did not expect that and pulled all the pushrods out with out taking note of where they belonged so no clue about that.
I have checked springs, they are standard and have about 0.006" clearence when compressed, and can not imagine what could have caused the problem.
I am reassembling the engine with all new original VW pushrods and I'm not sure if the problem is going to happen again.
By the way I have a cutout rpm limit of 4800 so overrevving should not have been the cause.

Springs
.006 is not enough. The Valve Springs should be at least .040 from coil binding.

Bent pushrods
Thanks for the advice, probably someody along the lifetime of the engine changed the springs, I have replaced them and really clearence is greater by sight even if I did not had a gage on hand to check but I will.
