Anyone used CB-Eagle hydro cams in WBX?

Here's the place for info on converting to a Type V motor!

Yeah, plenty happy. It's at about 4k. Added this oil cooler setup:

Now I've got very stable oil temp and pressure. I feel like this thing will last a long long time, without being babied. The power is a nice increase from the stock 2.1. Mileage about the same, 18, or better, like 20, if I slow down. But it can cruise effortlessly, even the big hills, at high speeds now, so slowing down is hard to do.

I think doing this level of upgrade was a real decent alternative to going Suby, with far fewer headaches. Not as powerful to be sure, but what it has is quite flexible and makes the van very driveable, so mission accomplished as far as I'm concerned.

Cool
As I have said before.. I cant go scoobie.. so have to stay with the stock wbx and carb setup.. but just get more grunt out of it..
Looks like safe bet is the stock 2.1 cam with 1.4 ratio rockers.. 2.1/2.2 jugs.. and a nice merged header for torque.. little bit of head work..
the oil cooling jets for the pistons and improve the oil system and oil cooling.. sounds mild, but should give a big increase over the stock 1.9DG...

How do you install the oil cooling jets to the Pistons. I knoe Go-Westy talked about it to stop piston failure on there 2.5 motors.

IIRC
Think they are (sure dont want to say this...) "Ford" Zetec ones fitted in the lifter galley... VW must do similar ones..
only operate when oil pressure is 15psi+... IIRC...

Seems my memory might not be what it was.......

I can't stress enough how important oil cooling is for these blocks, especially once you start getting more power out of one. Now oil temp never goes over 225deg.F, and consequently pressure remains stable. It maxes out at about 65 when the relief opens, but cruising I always have 45-50psi. I didn't have an oil temp gauge before installing my cooler, but pressure would drop to 25psi at 4000rpm under hard cruising in hot weather. I can only speculate that oil temp used to get over 250deg.F to create that kind of drop. It's extremely stable now, so I can finally breathe easy and drive the thing as hard as I want to.

I'm also fiddling with the FI a bit. I've driven it now with the AFM return spring backed off 3 teeth, and gas mileage hasn't suffered at all. I am not using a catalytic converter. There is a nice increase in overall power, though, and it holds speed on monster hills even better. I'll check the plug color soon.

I'm rebuilding the wbx 2.1 from my '87 Syncro right now. I'm also going to install the GW 2.2 cyl/piston kit.

Regarding that cam, would it work ok with an aftermarket EFI? I'm ordering the kit below because most of my original EFI is missing.

Thanks

I now have and sell a much better camshaft that I use in all our 2.2 & 2.3 engines. If you would like, I can help you with the parts needed to install that cam. I think its would work great with FI. IE: Camshaft, 3 to 4 bolt cam gear adapter, Lifters, bolt together rocker shafts, 1.25 rockers, Elephant feet & the under rockershaft stand shims. All sold as a kit.

This is a copy/paste from the first two posts. I'm amazed of the difference in drivability from what I assume is stock vs this mild build up and with a smallish cam to boot.

*The cam is working out nicely as part of this motor. It impacts idle very little, but I feel like in conjunction with the mild porting I did and the 1.25 rockers it is helping the top end breathing plenty. The power in the upper band is great: hills I used to crest at 55, floored and fading, ready to downshift, it now pulls at 70 at part throttle.

the 2252 (270 advertised duration, 214 @.050", .298" lift),*
