Pulley options?
Hi all,
i wonder what kind of crank pulley is most appropriate on my oxyboxer ,
i've got two sets in stock ,an aluminum BMD serpentine belt and a classic steel damper with "V" belt,
i'd like to use the BMD one ,but it's really light ,and i'm worried about bearing wear,
however when i see my 78.4 DPR wbx crank and his big counterweights ,i think that a damper is not needed like on a T1 crank ,
let me know what's better?
thanks
Eddy

Re: Pulley options?
Whatever one allows the use of the wasser crank seal
Yeah some may call it overkill, but you can't have too much overkill.

Re: Pulley options?
Hi,
both are sand sealed and balanced ,so no problem,
the question is more about a possible quicker bearing wear with the aluminum pulley ,
thanks

The Type 1 sand seal has a smaller diameter than the WBX seal.

Re: Pulley options?
There was a single wbx pulley used on synchros and also in Europe. What I did was take a cast wbx triple pulley and had the two outer pulleys removed on a lath. It may not look as nice as the one above but it works. I had it dynamically balanced with the rest of the spinning parts. My van does not have PS or A/C so I wanted to shed the extra weight. I could not find any other alternative when I was looking two years ago.

Re: Pulley options?
two ways out of the pulley problem, for an oxy, just turn down the oil scroll on suitable T1 pully, just machine untill its gone, still fits the wasser oil seal perfectly, you can also use the longer wasser pulley hub if you're staying with the wasser water pump, just remove the rivets and modify a suitable pulley, fastback has Photos of his version on here somewhere.
