Sorta looks like a pregnant early Honda Insight. J.C. Whitney used to sell skirts for Beetles, these may have come from them as well.

Knowing granddad, these are from JCW. He was their greatest customer, I think.

I think I like it better without the rear fender skirts.

I also saw another of my grandfather's VWs.

Was he a Shrinner (SP)? This is (probably) a Maxi Taxi, a very common body style for parades that they use(d); there is another body similar to it but it is usually referred to as a Lincoln (Continental or something like that) but the grill was different. There was a very nice example of one of them for sale around here lately. It should have a glass top for it. There was another one similar to it called a Sand Taxi which I had a chance to buy one when I was buying my first buggy but it had the passenger's side fender broken off and the broken off part was not with it so I passed on it.

Day 2:

I was just told by my better 2/3 and CFO that we weren't wasting money "getting the Ghia running for now" and I needed to start stripping it down for the full show restoration.

I replied, "yes ma'am."

I don't think he was. He just really loved VWs.

I got into the engine a little last night and it appears sometime between the time this picture was taken and now, the coil and any surrounding hardware has been swiped, What the deuce man!

First things first... I have to free up that rear wheel. My first "fix" also required me to buy a new tool, now the largest socket I own. The disc brake conversion will be nice.

Wait till you get a bus. Then you will own a 46mm socket and a bigger air compressor :)

Crank up the air pressure on your compressor if you can. 100 PSI helps to bust those big nuts loose. Be careful. They are tighter than a bulls ass in fly season.

I use a torque dude or what ever their name is. 30# of pressure to get 270# of torque (9:1). Can't help you with the bigger stuff other than get something larger than 1/2" drive!
