Thanks again guys..........
.........the 'REAL' motor isn't that far off now (wife permitting!) however I've something else planned before that goes in. I've managed to aquire (courtesy of ebay......don't ya just love it!) a full set of BMW M3 brakes, (disks & calipers) to go behind the rims.
I want to be able to STOP before I can GO!
So these should help somewhat! (I had to go for BMW brakes as the wheels have a BMW stud pattern).
......cop a look at these........... they're MASSIVE!!!!
.....and a lot cleaner and shinier now too!!!
thanks again guys

For the front brakes I'm going to mount the disks on a pair of VDUBCUSTOMS billet hubs.racelook wrote:I also want to do that in the future..Al-B wrote: a full set of BMW M3 brakes, (disks & calipers) to go behind the rims.
How are your plans on mounting the disks to the spindels?? ANd the calipers on the spindels??
Greets Wiebrand
These give the advantage of being built to your own specifications so you can decrease/increase the track without spacers, and keep the wheels under the fenders. AND it's all just 'Bolt-On'.
To mount the calipers I'm going to make a bracket, again similar to VDUBCUSTOMS
this means losing the splash plate ........but so what!
At the rear I'm going to use a turned down drum' as the hub and mount the disk over it. This'll increase the track by about 8mm easch side but with the offset on my wheels I'll still have plenty of space between the tyre and fender.
These pic's from the AIRSOULS website give you an idea of what I'm planning.......
the bracket for mounting the caliper will look 'something' like this....
As for an 'E-brake/handbrake, I'm looking at using the BMW set up, I'll mount this where the drum backing plate was.
'Hope that helps
Cheers

Thanks mate, nybug wrote:Hey Al, About your Beetle. All I can say is beautiful.
By the way, how were you able to move the steering wheel over to the passenger side. Just kidding.
As for swapping the steering wheel to the other side .............. it's a fairly common swap on your side of the pond I believe, there must be thousands of left hand drive cars over there!
