Question about floor pan replacement

Post by Spanky57 »

I'm replacing both pans on my 73 standard bug. I've got the pans out, and most of the spotwelds cleaned up, but in the front and back corners there is some small areas where a grinder wont reach. What would be a good tool for cleaning up these corner welds? I'm thinking maybe a die grinder, but I don't have one. I guess I could get one of the cheap harbor freight ones, but what kind of cutter would you guys recommend, if the die grinder is the way to go? I'm open to suggestions, I would love to get my pans welded in before too long.
Thanks, Mike :D

I use the cheap HF pneumatic die grinder and as long as you maintain them (a drop of air tool oil when you start) they work about as well as most and hold up fine.

This is one style :http://www.discount-tools.com/47single.cfm another cut: http://www.discount-tools.com/48single.cfm. You can get them in carbide or high speed, single cut and double cut for more aggressive work. The conical shape is what I have used to get into the tight places like that. Just be careful and wear gloves, a face shield and ear protection.
