Rust bubbles

Post by videoguy009 »

I have some rust bubbles above the running board near the back fender about 2" x 2". There are small ones and one the size of a quarter.I poked a hole in them and injected them with rust check for now. The awl did not go very far in when I pierced them. I know the rust has to be removed and possibly new metal or fiberglass to fill the hole. Any suggestions for the do it yourselfers.I got a quote of 300.00 from a body shop.

Rust bubbles usually form when it rusts from the OTHER side of the metal to the side with the paint. So, it's obviously rusted all the way through. Not much you can do except strip the paint around it down to bare metal and access the damage. $300 to fix it is cheap. But, I doubt they would actually fix it. It might last a few years, though. If you just want to get rid of the rust bubbles and don't care about restoring the integrity of the metal then the $300 job sounds like a good deal.
