oil system question...

Post by hberwald »

OK I need to add an external oil cooler.

I know what I want to do up front for a cooler and lines.

my question.

Should I eliminate the stock cooler?
should I go with a full flow system
SHould I go with a remote filter
I will add a thermostat to the oil line.

Does Jake have all the parts I need?
so many questions, so little time....
I do still need the barrel spacers. Thanks for the call....

IF you are running lines all the way up front, the full flow is the way to go.

Get rid of the stock cooler and filter setup.
That filter setup is the most restrictive part of the oil flow path!

I have everything except the thermostat...

Full flow is the way to go for sure..

The shims should be done by mid next week, we go back to full capacity on Monday when everyone returns from vacation.

Email Rebecca.... I don't work in the parts store much at all, I'm always in the engine shop, so i'm the least effective person to alter the order..

I have a somewhat related question. At least it deals with the oil system.

I was thinking about replacing the rubber lines that go to Oil cooler located in the DTM with a stainless steel or aluminum hard line.

Do you think this is a bad idea?

I don’t think that the lines need to be flexible because the cooler is in a fixed point to the motor.

The reason I was thinking about replacing them is that it is one less place to spring a leak and I am doing some re-plumbing of the gas and oil lines.

I think ridged lines would be a bad idea. Viberation/flex would crack them.

Other than this kit IN A 914 all you'll need are your preferential hoses and fittings and a small bit of work done to the upper left corner of the left side engine mount.
