Jake, question about Dellorto carbs on a 914.

Post by Thomas Otten »

Jake,

I listened to what you said on the show about the responsiveness of Dellorto carbs, and I think that is what I am looking for for my street 914. But I couldn't remember if you gave the name of the guy who refurbishes them, or if he has an Ebay ID. I plan on doing your 2056 kit for my 914, what size of carbs should I keep my eye out for? Is a Dellorto 40 comparable to a Weber 40?

Dell 40s.

The fellow from Europe is well known around here, maybe someone has his info and can share it.

Whats it cost to rebuild a set of Dell 40's as I have a set on the shelf I should do something with.

I might put them on a 2.0L 914 engine I have.

about 500.0 +/- if you send them to Art at ACE.. He is THE man!

He just bored my 48 IDAs to 52s, they are incredible.

Check on E-bay under E-bay stores. His user name is alfa1750.

Art at ACE tells me a rebuild is $125 per carb plus parts plus shaft work is by the hr. A set averages about $360.00.

As for the responsiveness, whataya expect with the torque Jake builds into his engines! :D

DRLA 40s for a 2316 too?

I've been thinking about switching to Dells before I send the motor off for a dyno tune.

I've got a set of newly rebuilt 40 DRLA's for sale, with T4 manifolds (both bold patterns), and a T4-width Tayco linkage (linkage needs bushings and new throttle-rods).

Is it true that the manifolds and linkage for webers and dells are interchangeable for this application?

The bolt pattern is the same between IDF & DRLA 40mm to 48mm, but 40mm carbs will only work properly on 40mm manifolds, 44 or 45mm carbs won't work well on 40mm manifolds, you need the proper manifold size to match the carb.

On the show it was said that you can take dellortos from a 1776 type I and run the same on a 2270 type IV. That sounds pretty versatile. But since I am looking for a rebuilt set, is there a proper jetting for a set of dell 40's destined for a 2056 driver car?

Thomas,

The guy in Europe Jake is referring to EBAY id is Alfa1750. Look up ebay item number 8021257314, that will get you in the right place. He is a great guy, I have purhcased from him and they are great and he is a great help as well. I have even sent him sets to rebuild, because I don't have all the tools to do some of the work, if they are in bad shape to start with and he always returns a good as new product.

He only charges me $50 to rebuild a carb. Shipping is $76 each way if you want them in hurry.

Ok, I just ordered a set from the guy from Europe. I did a search on the 914club and it seems that Jake recommends the following jetting for a 2056:

34 vent 180 air 140 main, Idle Jets: 60

So the guy is rejetting them for no extra charge. I like that.

Cool! That jetting should get you close unless you have an odd altitude.

What sort of breather should I look for. I used to run a "bugpack" breather. Is getting the engine compartment coated with oil something we just have to live with or what?
