accusump - how much extra oil

Jake,

Canton says to run the motor about 1 qt low so the crank doesn't get submerged when the accusump discharges its 2 qts.

That sounds like advice only for V8 guys.

Should I fill the motor a little over or under normal level?

What will happen to that extra 2 qts when the accusump discharges?

The accusump will recharge...

Run the engine with an extra 1.5 qts and see how well it works. You may need to adjust the levels for some tracks...

Just to be clear, run an extra 1.5 qts over the full line not including whatever oil is in the accusump?

OK

Basically when the accusump, filter and coolers are charged you want to run the engine on the full line...

If the Accusump is ALWAYS connected to the oil supply(no valve), pre-pressurize it at about 30#. This way there is 30#s of oil pressure for the motor before the Accusump starts to fill.

ken,

doesn't that decrease the volume of oil the accusump can discharge?

canton says to use 7 => 15 lbs air pressure.

I have 15 psi now.

Which oil pump are you running?

I have the 30mm Melling, running the 2 qt Accusump. Run a 1/2 quart high always. Burn up my motor on a high speed extended right sweeper. Idiot light came on and I just said F it. put the peddle to the metal...

Current rebuild, New CW Crank, modifed the windage tray, keeping the melling since I am also running an external Mocal cooler.

I just keeping thinking that if the valve covers are filling up/trapping the oil, then how effective will the Accusump truly be? That is, will it be counter productive as it is diverting/detracting oil on the recharge cycle? I want oil going back into the case not the Accusump. Now that I write this, I may just go back the stock oil pump or a 26mm Shadec

Bob,

I have 30mm Schadek. Just installed SCAT deep sump but won't know until next weekend's race if it cured the starvation problem I am having.

I may just go to a dry sump arrangement if this doesn't cure the problem.

As much as I like wrenching on the car, its really about the driving and racing for me. Hard for me to drive well when I,m worried about oil pressure all the time.

Are you running a windage tray? If so, did you modify?

windage tray, yes. modified, yes

Guys, do not run the precharge at more then 10 psi, that will decrease the oil going to the engine from the accusump.
I have run the accusump and extended sump, with and without the windage tray, on one of Jake's engines on every race course in the southeast and have never seen the oil presure drop below the 50 psi.
To fill it, I run the engine until it is hot with the accusump closed. Then I crack the manual valve and let the oil slowly fill the sump.
Check the oil in the engine and top off to the full mark.

Thanks Mark...

If anyone would have had an issue with the set up it would have been you!

Dave,
Mark's set up is just like yours..

Well if I have a problem this weekend then its definitely my home made oil cooling arrangement.

Or simply the way its all arranged... Simplicity is the key. The least amount of elbows and joints the better!
