Air compressor rebuild -need alternative options?

I have found Speedaire oil piston driven compressor.
Tank has a hole, but when i opened the air compressor i saw that it still has original honing marks, and electric motor works great.

Can i use soda blasting tank instead of to create hybrid air blaster, because:
i could pick up this locally and make a nice big compressor for less than 150 bucks total
I know that it might be crazy idea, but it can hold up to 125 psi's, or do i need much more
ps i needed this compressor mainly to power sand/soda blaster anyways, so can i mount mechanics at the top or it will not work

Me, I'd be a little leary of that tank..... I would go for original equipment tank....

Yes its more money but more reliable too..... Ever see a high pressure air explosion.... Its not pretty ...

For about $300-350 you can get a 20 or 30 gallon ASME certified tank with top plate ready to go....

updates, and that's how this compressor evolves
got new tank for 30 plus ring kit for the same
it will be finish painted to match the car with pin striping touches:)

Q:whats the orientation of the 2 compression rings on the piston?
