Howdy.

I have a crazy question about black iron pipe...

Can you weld black iron pipe?

I've thought of using it for some brush bars.... mostly show.

You can weld cast iron, but, there is special rod to use(arc welding) and a pre-heating and post-heating process you have to go through also.

If by chance you're reffering to that "black" metal pipe that you would use for gas lines in a house then yes you can weld that with out any special tricks.

Would I be a total idiot if I used the Black Gas Pipe for brush bars and tree bars (street use ony)

I'd rather ask a dumb question than repeat someone's stupid experiment.

Thanks for the smarts.

If you are talking about Sch 40 pipe then yes, you can weld it. It does have a coating on it that needs to be ground off first. It is not made out of cast iron. It is steel.

Crazy idea indeed! Just use tubing - there is no cost advantage to using pipe for the job of tubing.
