I double checked it in multiple places because I thought it didn't seem right. I'm using a Mitutoyo digital mic that has a metric scale. I can see it being a little off but not that much? The mic isn't new, I use it extensively when working on my mill and lathe as well as on precision printing equipment. That's my "real" job, I repair large sheet fed printing presses. Lester

So it wasn't a .010" shim (.25mm)?
When you swapped it, did the shim go with that same R&P into the new case? It should prove interesting if the next reported K831 is near that.

Nope, it was 0.1mm. and I did put it with the R/P in the new case. I thought it weird as well. I have a couple more SSC transaxles sitting around, when I get time I'll pull them apart and see what I can see. Lester

What's the conversion equation to put these in american numbers?
Edit** I looked it up, here's some quick converted numbers that were common going back 4 decimal places: .5mm=.0197 .55mm=.0217 .6mm=.0236 .625mm= .0246 .65mm=.0256 .7mm=.0276

I tore down a couple of cores lately I thought where unique. One was a 68 trans (almost certain AB) that was G4.37, round nut pinion bearing, splined 4th. It had a .60 shim.

The other was a double sideplate AT with a three bolt nose cone. G3.88 with a .65 shim. Both boxes in good shape but nine miles of thick of crap on them. Takes more time to clean them than to build it. I need an atomic pressure washer/cooker, lol. Nothing a little elbow grease can take care of.

Thanks Carl, I've added yours and a few more. Note, this list is for late threaded pinion bearing shims only.
Pretty soon I'll have to make a spread sheet. Keep 'em coming!

I recently set up an older 'O' 4.375 diff(keyed, but 8 bolt) into a late case.
A 0.35mm shim stack was as close as I could get.

Of interest, and for future conversions,
it was fitted from the factory with a four bolt deal and 0.6mm shim.
So perhaps a 0.25mm difference is a good number to start with
when going into a late case.
Or back the other way, (add 0.25mm) with say a Rhino,
when the pinion originated from the late shim/bearing case.

Thanks Dave, I've got an O type 4.37, so that gives me a starting point.

Maybe you should start a topic on Bus R&P shims. I never touch them, so I have no interest.

Did the facotry only pair splined 4ths and with the 4th gear race clip and then keyed fourth with the threaded end for a nut? Trying to figure out the differences between shims on certain ring and pinion sets, the only other one I would know if is the third gear splines being reduced slightly for use with the early gears.

I'm assuming over the years of production that it didn't change shimming anything to worry about.
