Re: Transmission Identification
thats a 1973 - 1976 Porsche 914 transmission. as far as strength I believe the rated max from Porsche is something like 180ft/lbs. they used the same basic transmission in the 911 as well, they upgraded it when they went from the 2.2L to the 2.4L engines. ratios should be as follows
11:34 A (3.09:1)
18:34 F (1.89:1)
23:29 N (1.26:1)
27:25 V (0.93:1)
31:22 ZD (0.71:1)
Final
7:31 (4.42:1)
that's assuming they are factory gear sets and it hasn't been re geared sometime in the past. also check the code on the bottom of the transmission, it should run along the bottom rib. it should start with 914/ then either 11 or 12 the either HA or HB. HA is a standard 5 speed HB indicates that it came from the factory with a limited slip differential, not common but possible.
hope that helps somewhat.
Edit: thought I would throw this link on here it has a good amount of info http://www.blueskymotorsports.com/index ... 7&Itemid=6

Re: Transmission Identification
Same as Porsche 901 transaxle. Just set up for the mid engine 914. With the right parts it can be converted to the rear engine configuration for use in the 911 912 models.
