Trans Tools use Q

Post by Clatter »

Gearing up to start doing a late SSC trans..

This VW 381/14 is used for the Type 2,
But it is also used with the later '73-up type 1 transaxles as well, correct?

Same with this here, right?
This will get the 'pinion round nut' off/on for late type 1?

The second tool to me is a maybe, but I think it could be more for 091's. The 091's have an early and late pinion race and nut, that tool looks like it's made for that. The T1 splined nut the tool would be thinner in my mind as most use an old 1-2 clutch hub or third to make a homemade socket for the shaft or grind a flat on the outside to hold it still in a vice.

Some of the 091 tools work for both nut and some don't. Here's a link that shows a little what I'm talking about, check the description on the second tool.

If you plan to do 091's an old fourth gear from a beetle is a cheap way to make something to hold the 091 pinion shaft, also works for the splined pinion shafts if you just want one holding tool.
