Hi all. I am going to be having a new transmission built to be mated with my soon to be finished 2007 motor. This will be going into a stock bodied 1971 fastback. The transmission will have for sure:
Coarse tooth 3rd/4th
Super Diff-10 tooth
Super Beetle mainshaft/1st
Handpacked needle bearings-all gears
Long engineering re-machined sliders
The R/P will be 3.88
The stock gearing for my car is: 1-3.80, 2-2.06, 3-1.26, 4-.89 with a 4.125 R/P
with my tires (195/65-15)and stock gearing at 3000rpm i'd be going 60mph. I'd like to adjust 4t gear to remain close to stock ratio with the 3.88 but how would you suggest I do the gearing for 2nd and 3rd? I don't want to have a long lag time between shifting from 3rd to 4th.
After just playing with a tranny calc. It seems that if i just changed 4th to 1.04 that would be ideal. It's pretty close....at 3000 rpm I'd be going 55mph.
Anyway, any suggestions?
