Hi All,
Making some changes to my bug over the winter!
gone from type 4 1911 to 2056 now a 2270cc's going in
viewing the tyre/wheel package , im currently running 15 gas burners with 195/65 (possibly not the best track wheel?) have the offer from a mate for some +2" wider wings
keep reading most cars are over braked and over tyred
current specs are
bj front end
irs rear
porsche brakes front and rear
gas burners 195/65 tyres
cup brace system
dry sump system
shortly 2270 (160-170bhp)
I like the the 6 and 7 combo. 195/55 15 on 6", a bit of give in the side wall but stiffer than your current tyres, also brings the nose down a bit without the ball joints getting into bind.....
and 205/60 15 on 7", carcass is stretched a bit keeping it firm, thats where our weight is.
Use a nice rounded profile tyre like dunlop DZ03G front & DZSP1 rear or Yokohama A048R (both ends), 'cos of our old suspension design with no camber change with compression on the front.
Light wheels (less unsprung weight) will make a big difference, like real Fuch, not much is lighter than them and they are very strong.
You'll probably get this all under stock guards.
Good tyres are not cheap!
thanks for the advice Ian
can source the Yokohama A048R tyres ok
would be nice to keep stock width wings
will have a measure up later
the cookie cutter style wheels seem to be available in 6/15 & 7/15 combo's at relatively low cost, the minilite or revolution style wheels might be a cheaper option than orig fuchs? will try to get specs up later to review
cheers

some wheel weights for you (not measured by me)
7" by 15"
fuch 13 lb (forged)
minlites 13.5 lb
cookies 17 lb (cast)
tele dials 18lb. (cast)
A cheap forged wheel but only in 16" the 944 / 928 "manhole cover' FORGED by fuch, just ugly. there are 6" and 7" in a few different offsets http://www.944racing.de/felgen/gullydeckel.jpg

I would say from personal experience that the 7" Cookie Cutters are more in the area of 15-15.5 lbs (6" is just a hair under 13lbs). Those who know me, know that I am a big fan of these wheels. I believe it is very difficult to find a lighter high quality wheel at the price point these typically fetch ($80-120 US). The 15x7 wheels will require a wider rear fender (wing) and a small spacer (10mm) helps with trailing arm clearance as well.
Many thanks for the info
looks lite the cookie cutters or minilites might be my best bet (orig fuchs a bit out of range£$)
have not seen minilites on a beetle before but they look ok on a porsches they also seem to come in a range of et's
Will have a measure up under the arches to access room available
