Superbug #170 helmet cam footage (Zwartkops international)

Post by 4agedub »

I decided to mount the camera on my helmet to give a better perspective of how busy it gets during the race :)
Enjoy

Hi 4AgeDub,

Fast Bug and great driving. I see those quick steering inputs keeping the tail end in line. You're living proof a swing axle can get up and boogie.

As a refresher for the new guys watching you here, what's the power and engine types you're up against in your class?

And, what kinds of brakes do you use?

Thanks,

FJC

Thanks FJCamper

The #170 bug as in this video still has a steering box which works better than the rack we used in the #71 car, so there is a bigger chance to catch it when things go wrong. As you can see through the fast turn 4 sweep it needs a lot of input to keep going straight. :D

The #170 bug is producing around 80 kw on the wheels which is a little underpowered compared to the other cars in our class. The brakes are VW Rabbit vented rotors and calipers on the front and VW Golf mk3 rotors and calipers on the rear with a VW Rabbit dual piston master cylinder. With this master is tends to lock the front before the back... I prefer it the other way around as on our #71 bug.

In our class there is a variety of Ford Escorts, Capri's, Alfas and the odd Scirocco. Here's some pictures from the February event.

Thanks for the helmet view. Much better than car mounted. If possible, please mount it a little higher to keep the track in view at all times for the viewers at home.
Which camera do you have? I am going to try a sunglasses camera next week. Unfortunately, the FOV is too narrow and it is hard and uncomfortable to fit under a helmet so I need to find something better.
Is that a stock transaxle? It seems to shift nicely.

Great video!! Thanks for sharing it!

I'm always amazed at how in video, the action seems slower and more "relaxed" than it really is in real life. The helmet cam is an improvement on that. So when I see one like this where the driver IS busy, I know it's crazy and on the edge out there!! I love it!!
