73 rear brake changes

I'm doing an IRS conversion, and looking at brakes. Most disc kits with E-brake for IRS have a split at either 72 or 73 1/2, and I'm wondering what the changes were?

Also, what's the general opinion of the CB kits that use custom hubs and 914 rotors?

Only change that comes to mind is lug-centric vs hub-centric rotors & rims.

I like my stock Porsche 944 rear brakes. Nearly a bolt-on (you need cable "swans" available from vdubengineering). Just put another set on my trike, this time eliminating the flex hoses and running 28" #3-AN braided lines with a 90° fitting at one end (Allstar 46302-28). Need four male bubble-flare to male #3-AN adapter fittings, Russell 641431.
Porsche rims typically have BIG backspace and require spacers (even the stock 924/944s use 20mm hubcentric pass-throughs). If you don't want to run 5x130, there may be adapters available. I needed 28mm spacer thickness on the trike and just adding 8mm ones would've lost hub-centricity so I replaced the lo-o-ong stock studs with some shorter ones to allow using a 28mm bolt-on spacer. https://scontent.fsnc1-2.fna.fbcdn.net/ ... e=5A0DD806

Hmmm, it's unusual for Marc to miss this....

In 73, VW moved the e-brake rearward by a small amount. This requires shorter e-brake cables. Otherwise, nothing else changed.

Thanks, I'll probably be getting the early kits with the longer cables then. Part of the reason for the disc conversion is to use the 4x130 wheels I have that match the front.

Yes, the `73-up cables are ~2" shorter overall - if the disc brake kit includes cables, that's probably the difference.
