Hey all,
I've got a 1970 IRS pan and am trying to convert to the 944T arms and spring plates. Challenge is, I'm having trouble getting the spring plate to sit on the spring plate. Has anyone else run into this?

You are using the wrong torsion bar covers. You need mid 71 and later covers designed for single spring plates. Your covers have spacers on them that don't clamp the spring plate enough.

No, the ones in your link are for real early cars, 50s.
You can remove the spacers, but they're welded on and removing them makes a mess of the spring plate covers. Look in the ads on the Samba for originals in good shape.

I'm driving to Seattle tomorrow for work, so I'll just stop by FranklinsVWWerks and pickup a set. They did the work to get the 944T brakes to work on my front end, and during my tour of the place, I saw bins full of parts like this.

See if you can get a set of shorter bolts too. Stock bolts are 15mm heads (m10) so your socket will fit. 17mm head screws won't fit. Franklin should have them too.
Once you get the spring plate sucked in as far as it needs to be, check the clearance of the 36mm hex of the camber adjuster to the torsion housing.
