turn signal issues
Im doin a resto on my 75 super. Im currently hooking up all electrical and ran into a problem at my front turn signals. My buddy stupidly un-taped the labeled wires that tell me where each wire went the to turn signal fixture. Yesterday I guessed how it hooked up and it light up when my head lights turn on. But when I turn the signal to the right it doesnt blink. My question is do you have to have the rear turn signal bulb in to for it to blink? Do you have to have the car running for it to blink? or do I have it all wired up wrong? Please help! Any info would be awesome. Thanks Evan

Most flashers (except for the "heavy-duty" kind you might install if you sometimes tow a trailer) need to have a certain load on them before they'll flash. Since VW uses the same flasher for t'signals and 4-ways, their flashers like to "see" two to four bulbs.
Key needs to be on for t'signals to work, but not for the hazard flashers.

OK. Today I put bulbs in on just the right side and it started to blink normally with the ignition on then when i proceeded to switch on my headlights the blinker became solid. I also tried running the car and trying the combo of having the headlights on and T' signals but still they stayed solid. Should I try putting both T' signals on and see if they still stay solid when the headlights are on? Or is there some other reason anyone can think of? Thanks much, any comments would help.

The gray wire goes to the parking lamp (the longer, dimmer filament in an 1157 bulb). There's a small black wire coming off of the gray wire which goes to the little marker lamp bulb. The heavier striped black wire goes to the t'signal filament. The brown wire goes to ground, connect it to the frame of the bulbholder.
