alternater wiring

Post by GARRICK.CLARK »

Hi guys.
I've fitted an alternater with the internal regulator to my bug.
Ive used the 2 existing wires in the engine bay that were to the generater and wired these to the alternater.Under the back seat of my bug i've joined the blue and green wires together,iv'e left the 3 red wires connected to the regulater that was used for the generator. It seems to work, when i turn the key on both dash lights come on as they should but the alternater light on the dash glows slightly with the key off, is it because i've still got the generator regulater wired in.

Thanks G

The generator regulator must be removed from the circuit. Bond the three large red wires together, keeping in mind that they are "hot" with the full capacity of the battery on them at all times - a short to ground here can cause a fire, or even a battery explosion, so insulate the splice well.
