Mini Cam Sync

Hi Pile, your will have BETTER luck using the "627" for missing tooth detection AND the "601" for CAS.

This works well with the '667 on the bench with an oscilloscope, making sensors in 3/8" SS tubing, epoxy filled.
The trick was having the missing tooth as filled material, jacks with the AGC otherwise.
Didn't work ~at all with a tooth cut out.

Going to give this a try even if impractical for production with the TIG weld filled gear.
(At least until Mario sends me something else to test)

I just turned the shaft down and pressed the gear on, Traxxas truck steel spur gear 36T.
Haven't tried it on the MS yet, but foresee no issues.
(overdid it with the welder, but 36-2 is perfectly valid apparently)

I need to find a simple cover of some sort.
Thank you for the idea.

looks like a nice fit in there. I have seen people use a fernco cap. the rubber ones with a hose clamp used on PVC plumbing.

Great idea, although my homebrew 3/8" dia sensor pokes through the condenser connection hole.
May try a fence post cap for size.

(The `627 and several of the other Allegro sensors OD can be sanded down a tiny bit to fit in thinwall 3/8" SS tubing, with SMT caps and pullups soldered to the device legs, add wires, fill with epoxy)

Tested it full up on the bench using my old MS2 sequential setup, works well at 5v or 12v, will be trying it on MS3 tomorrow.
(was spinning the distributor with a drill)

Worked fine in the car as well, although I'm going to need to wire the LM1815 through pin 9 so it just acts as a logic buffer
(Hall sensor powered off 5vref) running into a rev limit at ~5K, worked past 8K (4K @distributor) on the bench with my old MS2 setup.

So would Mario's sleek setup work to trigger ignition or is it just for cam sensor for squencal ?

Cheers :)

The initial V1 will only be for a cam sync.

Research is already begun for V2 that will be a 12-1 trigger wheel. Full sequential will be possible from this version.

Cool ! That would so cool and a simple install to just plug that in the dizzy drive and that be the ignition done!

Yep, and you just give it a twist while watching the timing wheel w/timing light to set your timing.
(assuming the MSQ and distributor drive are set up//installed properly)

ahhh right? thats confused me a little.... so does that adjust the difference between the MS table and the ACTUAL timing them? like moving the sensor on a pulley wheel trigger?

Yes, adjusting the offset physically to match the ECU. Many systems allow you to do that in software.

Some plan to distribute spark with a rotor. Keep in mind the rotor phasing vs the cap when setting the physical position in that case.

I may be able to provide 24-1 wheels that fit 009 style distributors. Also when ready, the complete "new" 009 style drop in setup with trigger wheel, sensor, and top cover. I'm waiting on more details and will update.

You can actually do either, twist or tweak in the offset, but the recommended sync tooth offset is 70-90 degrees as supposedly the ECU is less busy at that point in the cycle. (*probably doesn't matter on MS2extra/MS3 but it's still in the docs)

I set the software offset for 80 degrees and twist the distributor: With this setup it does what you expect.

Here's my current setup, cut the top off a distributor cap and glued on some plexi as aviewport to set timing, second pic is of another shaft i made up to allow use of the rotor and cap etc...

Got the couple of changes made to the files with some upgrades and sent them off. I know the shop has some other big projects going right now, I don't know if they will be worked in between operations or if he is finishing the other things first.
