Wasted Spark Logic Coils
I was trolling the interwebs and came across these. Anyone know where they come from? $110 each seems steep unless it's packed with an IGN-1a coil. But they don't list output.

LOL, no I am looking to find where the coils come from. Without the Holley sticker, so they are less expensive.

Re: Wasted Spark Logic Coils
These look very similar to the coils used on the earlier Holden Commodores (GM), think they have modified them (dumb coil) to a logic coil.
Might give you somewhere to start looking.
EDIT Buick coil mounted on ignitor

Re: Wasted Spark Logic Coils
There's nothing wrong with the concept, and the implementation might even be great, but the price is ~ridiculous.
(I said something similar a couple weeks ago about another product which got me called an jerk. I'm curious if a Holley rep will show up )
There's a market here for GOOD high current drivers made for logic control... DIS coils are dirt cheap, and quite reliable. I'm not fully conviced BIPxxx are the "correct" driver, it's just what everyone uses.
Maybe we could incorporate some of this into a coil pack setup and "create" a cam sync pulse without the extra sensor like GM does... (the tech actually goes back to the early GM DIS days so the patents have long since expired, this article just has the best explanation I have ever seen for how it works)

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Re: Wasted Spark Logic Coils
the holley coil looks like a standard GM wasted spark coil mounted on an ignitor. I'd love to find those cheaper or just the ignitor and source my own coils. I've been looking into the subaru logic coil pack. common from around 2000-2004. from what I've read on MSExtra forums they run well on default settings, going low. I just don't know how much power they have.
Pin 1 is the 5v input that fires the "1-2" coil
Pin 2 is 12v
Pin 3 is Ground
Pin 4 is 5v input for "3-4" coil

Re: Wasted Spark Logic Coils
what about the saturn SC1 ignition coil pack?
have to do more research but it looks like the base is the ignitor.

I've got a few of those coils and they sit on an ignitor base with two spades connections
$20 each

Similar specs to the old GM DIS coils? They approached awesome IIRC.Paul H wrote:I've got a few of those coils and they sit on an ignitor base with two spades connections

Are the ignitor bases available? Do you know any details? ("smart drivers"?)

Re: Wasted Spark Logic Coils
I think Electromotive use the coils with 2 mounted on a base-I've no idea about the OEM ignitor bases
