Megasquirt - Spark only - To emulate the mallory unilite...

Post by samcat »

Getting my head around everything before starting the install, as I am sure that will lead to a million and one questions! Figured a good starting point would be attempting to replicate the advance given by what is already installed in the car..
So, I am currently running a Mallory Unilite Optical dizzy, 2 grey springs, 12 degrees initial, 28 degrees max. NO vacuum advance.

The chart shows the effect of the various spring, this is in addition to the initial advance..

This gives me this:

Or as a table:

As you can see I have done a slight 'kickup' below idle rpm, read that this is a good idea as it helps improve idle stability.

Can someone check my thinking through please, and please tell me if I am doing anything silly!

Reasonable starting point, but...
1) no need to have the table go down to 10 kpa. 30, maybe 40 with a cam.
Once that's done, multiply the bottom line x2 and then do a smooth scaling in two sections
(before and after the advance)

2) you appear to have a MS3. MS2e & MS3 have very useful idle timing and idle speed correction features that you should really use, so it should ~never see the main table at idle... but it does use that column for post cranking>idle area, it also effects how easy it is to stall. having more timing in the main map in the idle area can be a feature.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Thanks!

Correct, I have the MS3X for full sequential using one of Marios cam Sync thingies.
Collecting my thoughts and planning it all out atm, so much to learn hence posting and sharing my learning.

The kpa is the default that TunerStudio presented, so just went with it.. Figured as I was just using rpm and ignoring MAP for now it wouldnt matter, and once its running I can see what the working range of MAP is.

Thanks for the input, gives me something further to go and read, which is exactly what I was after!

Oh for an idiots guide to getting started with spark only! :)
