Quite so. One of the things I don't like about my type-3 is access to the dash wiring.

I was just feeling like poking the bear  I only solder if its the last resort. The half length splice terminals that overlap the wires and some good sealing heat shrink is my favorite.

Sorry, half length splice terminals?
I would not mind crimping when joining wires together if there were something I could easily slide some heat shrink over and which is not big and bulky.

Back to the LS2 wiring. Is the 0.001 cap still required with the MS3X expansion board?

It won't hurt, if you are crimping your own ends on the wires you can build it into the connector.

OTOH I'm pushing 80K miles without.

I do run ferrites which have a somewhat similar effect on high frequency noise.
I use them on the 12v feeds at the coils and from the battery to the coil relay to reduce any high power backfeed into the rest of the system.

Have you actually tried the heat shrink/hot melt glue sealed automotive crimps?

They are hardly big and bulky, and provide excellent strain relief.

Make a loop of 12 ga wire (properly crimped and sealed) and pull it apart.
(note: This may hurt...)
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Yes, Yes I have. And a bit more bulky than my liking. But to each there own. ;-)
Hot glue is an exultant option if you going the crimp route. As is Locktite silicone adhesive sealant.

I have a few ferrites I am planning to use in a few key places.

I don't use the cap. Same goes for Ferrites. If you need them I would guess your harness isn't made well.

Now I could live with that and some heat shrink :-)
Need to get me of some of them.

Oh they even make them with heat shrink!

Looks like I need to stock up ;-)
Need larger bulk sizes though.

Those (side-by-side 3m w/the hot melt lined heat shrink) would work great but they are a little larger in diameter/wider when finished than the inlines.
Tad shorter though, can see uses. Would work on TC wire as well if you twisted the wires together first.

RTV??? Most RTV is corrosive to copper.
The hot glue is already coating the inside of the heat shrink on the waterproof splices so no more work than the std ones.

OK i was searching for more wiring info for the LS2 coils and ran across this thread http://www.msextra.com/forums/viewtopic ... 31&t=42824 the first reply mentioned that they had the Spark outputs backwards being a newbie at this logic coil thing I was hoping someone here could explain what this person had backwards so I don't make the same mistake. Just looking at the diagram I don't see it.

Don't sweat it, some people just don't have very good reading comprehension.

Upon review of the thread he had the msq settings wrong, with the spark polarity inverted.
I don't think the manual could be any more clear as to what the setting should be using ls2 coils.

The only thing that could be said in his defense is that the dwell terminology was changed a few years back to reduce confusion.
It didn't help.

Read The Fine Manual.
Follow The Fine Manual.
It Tends To Work.

,,,
BTW--- The ferrites were not required, but I consider them a Very Good Idea,
They can do no harm, and can prevent a lot of intermittent weird.

They are a band-aid, but a very effective bandaid, esp as the fix won't cause a system redesign.
You can buy DB connectors with ferrites built in on every pin for high noise and/or critical applications.
They are a thing.

OK next question what gauge wire do you to feed the +12V to the coils?

I used 4x 12 ga, split off at the fuses.
OTOH I HAD a big roll of 12 ga. 14 or even 16 would be fine if running 4 power wires.
The coils can pass ~10A, but there is a duty cycle involved.

The pins connecting to the coils IIRC can only take ~20-18ga wire, so a splice is happening somewhere.
(I put a ferrite in the harness fairly close to each coil on the power side w/as many wire turns as fit)

Note ultraflex wire (many fine strands) has a lower current capacity than std lower strand count wire.

I just wanted to ask this question in this thread so I wouldn't have to make another one, and its pretty relevant to the subject. I'm looking for LS2 Truck Coils (D585) to run with my set up, and came across this lot.

I know its not the correct part number (D585 or GM10457730), but I was wondering if it was a new model or something. In the applications section it lists the Yukon's and other trucks that it works with. It also comes with the harness that can be cut up to fit too. I want the truck coils so I can run them straight to the MS Module without the spark relay.
