EDIS

Post by GARRICK.CLARK »

Evening guys.
I have 2000 Ford Escort 1.6 16v coming to the end of its life, Engine is ok.
Is this a ford that has the EDIS ignition people use to convert a vw bug to distributor less ignition.
Would it work on my turbo motor. If so i'll strip the parts off it.

I think it was made about a decade too late. There are much better systems than EDIS out there now anyway. The coil is probably the only part of that system worth saving, if at all. If your up for doing a little fab work, the trigger wheel and VR sensor might also be worthwhile grabs.

I used EDIS on my first MS-1 setup.
It really is quite dated now but will work if you have a MS ver. 2.2 board.

If You are going to buy new you should get the Ver. 3.0 board and just run direct fire ignition instead.

The EDIS coil will work but it has EDIS specific coil connectors that are getting hard to find. If you need to make longer plug wires you will need to buy a set from a 1997 Ford F-150 V-8 pickup that has wires from about 14 inches long all the way to 40 plus inches.
It might be better to go with the Direct Fire and a standard coil like a Ign-4 coil where you can easily make your own wire lengths.

I am still using the EDIS coil but will probably change it out to a Ign-4 coil and wires for ease of replacement if on a road trip and I break one.
I switched over to Mario's trigger wheel setup which is a very clean looking package.
