IAT Timing compensation

I have been tuning my engine management maps and was wondering if I should use the timing compensation for hot temperatures?

It is set up ok for cold and I am still working on it. My question is do I use the timing retard when hot? Around what temp and how much do I retard the timing?

Thanks

Piledriver has done fairly extensive tuning work on IAT temp and cylinder temp controlled timing. I'm not sure what you could search under but he might jump in here and give some pointers.

Hi thanks

For now I have started to play around and went with 1* at 35*c(95*f), 2* at 40(105*f) and increasing from there to more than 10* at 80*c (210*f). Should never see those Temps but just as n precaution.

Do you have a turbo without any cooling capability???

Without a turbo to heat the air you probably won't see air temps higher than 120 degrees unless you live in a hot climate.

My Cruise IAT's vary from 60* F to 110* F. That is not enough to worry about much if any ignition compensation.

Sorry never mentioned that. It is turbo but with charge cooler and from what I have seen not more than 20-30*c (86*f) above ambient. Climate can get to the high 30s c (around 90*f).

That would probably put you at around 180 degree IAT's which would probably require advance at around 22 degrees or less if you don't have any cooling ability.

I don't use the temp compensation due to not wanting to take a chance of detonation at the high boost levels I run. I just adjust the ignition map on my ECU software to make sure I have no detonation.
I also installed a switch that lets me limit the boost to 6.0 lbs. with no W/I for carefree driving that still gives me more power than most would need.

Since we don't know what your setup is comprised of it's hard to give advice on what to do.
Post some specs and a few pics of the car along with your location so we know what climate you are in.
