Carb question
Just bought a 73 beetle. I think im having a carb issue. Car idles great. Drove great for about 30 mins then started sputtering, losing power and wanting to die. Get to a stop light and at idle she still purrs like a kitten. Any ideas?

Re: Carb question
Could be a few things, but flaky rust in the gas tank clogging the pickup screen comes to mind first.
(or clogged lines)
At idle, the fuel pump can "keep up" despite the restriction.
If the issue "cures itself" for awhile after sitting for ~half hour or so that would be #1.
Also a dying pertronix ignition module may work OK when cold and at idle.
Even bad condensers can go like that if you have points, but much rarer.
These are fairly common issues on 40-50 year old cars, not just VWs.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.
