I have spent many hours reading the forced induction forum, Turbo threads, FI threads, My brain is on overload and going 100 directions for this.... I have a 74 super beetle with stock engine. My long term plan is to build a 1776 FI Turbo and i'd like to transfer all of this to it with whatever improvements needed for the higher performance / more demands..... Also, thinking E85 at that time so i'll need to prepare for that too.
At this time i am tired of the stock setup with 34pict-3.
I have a MS V2.2 board that i've got 50% completed and also have the relay board (this was all free so i'd prefer to work with if i can)
I'd like to use this setup but read that i may have limitations. Maybe for now it'll work but as i get into performance maybe no? (v3.0 at that time?)
Ignition: direct fire an EDIS style coilpack or coil near or on plug?
Intake: I'd like to plan for the future, I had considered the Mexi-FI but read about the lower airflow. So i am thinking CB FI intakes (not the High flow version) I believe i'd still like to run a single TB in the middle.
Sensors: TPS on TB, Cyl head temp tapped into the head? IAT below the TB? Wideband O2 in the muffler/header?
Please help me make some sense of this. I plan to install suspension soon, and would like to roll into the FI project immediately after.
I know its 100 things, but i'm a little overwhelmed with the amount of info out there and just need to narrow it down.
Thanks ahead for any and all help guys!

Looks like a great project!
If you have Megasquirt info overload, make sure to ONLY study the MS-extra manuals--- the far more advanced -extra firmware uses the hardware a bit differently, and reading the B&G Megamanual as well is certain to cause headaches.
E85 is a bit of cake if you plan the fuel system right. New GM flex fuel sensors can be had for ~$35 these days.
(in the midst of doing this myself, the engine likes it... a lot. fuel costs are a wash.)
Gates multi-fuel hose is a good thing.

zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

You can read through my build to see an install of a Ver 2.2 Ms-1 extra with EDIS.
As far as I know the Ver. 2.2 board can't do direct fire without a bunch of work. It is set up to do EDIS with the Module.
I ran EDIS for three years without any issues... it is a robust setup and reliable. You will have a few more wires to deal with and also the module to place but it's not too difficult.
Here is how I placed the Module in the coil mount area.
I mounted the coil in front of the shroud to hide it for a cleaner look.
I used the Stock German Plenum and Throttle body for a year with the MS-1 but built my own intake this past winter to get rid of the clutter and get a smoother throttle pedal.
I'm using Volvo 940 turbo 32# fuel injectors, fuel pump and a Golf filter and currently running 17 lbs boost on my 1679.
Here is my homemade intake using the stock German TB.
Water injection, vacuum/boost reference and IAT sensor added.
CB FI intakes are great for ease of installing FI.

Thanks clonebug. ... I'm on page 42 of your thread, been reading it for a couple weeks. Big inspiration!

EDIS vs direct coil control is pretty much a wash if you are using waste spark, IIRC you lose spark cut with EDIS but may gain multi-spark at low RPM depending on the specific EDIS modules capabilities.
(I think they both use the same number of IOs, but I have not looked lately)
OTOH direct coil control appears easier to troubleshoot as you can fire a specific coil at will in test mode.
Also, any EDIS module or component you can buy short of new is ~10-20 years old.
