Spammers

Post by doc »

Please do not post in spam posts. The new STF software allows me to delete the spammer and all their posts with 2 clicks. But if you post in the spam post, I have to delete your posts individually. This is a major PITA.

I catch 99% of all spam within 12 hours. Just hold your water and I'll get the jerk the next time I'm online.

Of course, I do miss one from time to time. If you see a spam post that has been around more than 24 hours, drop me a pm.

Thanks,

doc

You might want to make this a global announcement.
Hot, humid air is less dense than cooler, drier air. This can allow a golf ball to fly through the air with greater ease, as there won't be as much resistance on the ball.

Doc, would this still work if the mods remove all posts except for the spammers?

Yes. If mods want to delete spam responses, it saves me time.

But, spammers haven't been a big problem. No need to worry. The only ones that keep getting by are the "live" ones that actually register and post. Nothing to do on an open forum but monitor and delete.

Also if a spam post is found, just lock the topic if there are no replies?

I usually follow up with a PM to you about a spam poster.

He's posting links to a golf store. I clicked over and saw they had a live help button. So I clicked it. Amanda wasn't very helpful...

Amanda 22:34:09

Hello, how may I help you?
I 22:34:33

Hi, just saw a posting on shoptalkforums.com for you guys
I 22:34:44

what vw parts do you carry?
Amanda 22:35:53

Hi,what can I do for you?
I 22:36:05

this site looks like just golf stuff?
Amanda 22:36:30

Yes, we have golf clubs, bags on sale.
I 22:36:43

anything that will fit on a VW?
I 22:36:59

roof rack or something for my clubs?
I 22:39:29

nothing came up in my search. Not sure why you guys are posting on a VW site if your products don't fit. Thanks anyway...

Simple fix: click report on spam posts, or do like I do and PM a mod with the spammers login name. 100% of the time that poster will be gone next time you log in, just like it should be.

Mods can't delete members, so reporting spam posts is the best bet. doc rarely misses a spammer.
