I got the 'my SQL' error again tonight: 'too many connections'.
When I was finally able to get through, I noticed there were no less than 3 bots trolling around and so I guess it made sense. Question is: is there any way to limit the bots to a max of 2 at a time, because I'm pretty sure they are bogging the site down when they save searchable content on the forums. I know they aren't here to harm, but the reality is that they are really making the site slow at times (usually late at night, but that's when I'm off work and able to post).

Don't think so. There are 20 or 30 search bots that run constantly. It is unlikely that is the cause of any slowdown.
For me, connectivity with the new server has been quite good. Once in a while there is a slow down (a few seconds) but there could be many, many reasons for this starting with your machine and your connection.
While I am open to any suggestion that would improve performance, elimination of bots probably won't buy us anything.
